The Banquet Network

Toolkit

THE BANQUET NETWORK - IMPLEMENTATION TOOLKIT

Below is a sample implementation timeline for becoming a church that is actively working to reach, serve, and include people with disabilities. This timeline is flexible and should be adapted to fit the specific context of your church.

MONTH ONE

I. Host a Sunday service highlighting disability (you may call this "Disability Sunday" or "Special Needs Sunday" or etc.)

II. Host a follow up meeting after the service to form a small group of people who want to take responsibility for the church’s disability ministry - select a "disability point person" who will be the main point of contact between The Banquet Network and your church

MONTH TWO

I. Begin the 8 week “Inspire” curriculum with the above small group or have all small groups in the congregation go through this curriculum

II. While going through the curriculum also take time to conduct an accessibility survey of your church

MONTH THREE

I. The small group creates an action plan for disability ministry at the end of curriculum

  • The small group begins to engage people with disabilities in some sort of service aimed at developing relationships with people with disabilities in the community

II. Have the disability point person from your church join in the monthly Banquet Network conference calls

MONTH FOUR

I. Host a training for your greeters, children's ministry, adult Sunday school, and or other ministries

MONTH FIVE

I. Host a “Parents Night Out” or other event aimed at serving people and families in your church who are impacted by disability

MONTH SIX

I. Host a meeting for other churches in your area (or that you are connected with) to talk about how they can get started in disability ministry

MONTH SEVEN

I. Apply for a Banquet Network grant for additional activities

BEYOND

I. Participate in ongoing Banquet Network events, trainings, and conferences

II. Continue to inspire and equip your church and others to reach, serve, and

include people with disabilities

III. Consult The Banquet Network and fellow Banquet Network churches with questions, challenges, or ideas as you minister to people and families with disabilities
